Chapters 10 & 11 Fishbowl Reflection

The May 13th fishbowl group really dug deep in The Outsiders as they drew on connections among characters and events throughout the novel. What ideas stood out for you? Consider the following as you write. Remember to include at least one quote with in-text citation, AND please remember to say something insightful about why you've selected it.
  • How have the chain of events in the novel impacted Ponyboy? How do they explain his behavior?
  • Describe the reasons why Johnny and Dally were connected.
  • How have your understandings of the differences between socs and greasers been reinforced in this selection?
  • How has the relationship between Ponyboy and Darry shifted? Explain!

Chapters 8 & 9 Fishbowl Reflection

Think about the discussion from Chapter One of The Outsiders. What did you learn about the characters? Create a list of at least five things you learned from the discussion. You might want to consider some of the following to help guide you:

  • What is it about the relationship between Ponyboy and Darry that is hard for both of them?
  • What do you think S. E. Hinton would say about different social groups?
  • Using some examples of the dialogue in Chapter One, explain how the way the characters speak to one another and what those words reveal about their relationships.
